With Thanksgiving upon us here again in 2019, I am reminded more than usual on how much I have for which to be thankful. Even in this imperfect world, God has still blessed us to live in a country where we are free. Here in the United States, I am still free to write a blog such as this which might only reach a few and yet encourage someone that there is still hope and that there is a Living, Righteous, Holy God on the Throne seeking to draw all men and women to his peace. My art piece today is a pen and ink rendition depictating the Lord Jesus Christ having torn the veil in twain that any may enter for salvation. Anyone can be saved from the penalty of death by placing their repentant faith in what Christ did on the cross-ANYONE, be they black, white, Asian, Latino, rich, poor, conservative, liberal, communist, sane or insane...no matter how sinful..."Christ receiveth sinful men". John wrote, to born again believers the following:
"...And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." from 1 John 2:1. Hence, the title of my piece is "The Advocate"... Christ is the High Priest, mediator...the Lawyer for all who come to Him as He appeals to The Father, God Almighty - thus saving us from the justified wrath of the Lord God himself. This is a reality for which I am...Thankful. Today, November 11, 2019 is Veterans Day of course and I just wanted to take a moment-as countless Americans across our land are doing-and say thanks to men and women who are serving, have served and especially to express gratitude to the vast number who have given the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives in the name of Freedom and service to our nation. I am grateful to those who have trained, served and fought in order that many of us-such as myself -can actually have the freedom to do whatever line of work or career we may choose.
My art piece today " My Brother's Keeper" is a pen and ink / water color wash I did in 2018 based on the iconic photograph/miniature work "Rescuing the Major "– the 2004 photo that won the Ultimate Soldier contest© Mark Hogancamp / Artists Rights Society (ARS), NY. It is a true saying that "War is Hell" and because of this fact, it is a sobering thing to know we have The United States Armed Forces ready and willing to plunge into such conflict if and when they are needed. Special thanks to family and friends of mine who have served: My grandfather, John Houston Allison, cousin Michael King, Father in Law Kirk L. Byerly, son in law Blake Neese, as well as friends such as Dave Gates, Charles Sosebee, Arnold Whitaker, Gene Hill, Steve Bramlett, Paul Thomas, Jim Gray and his brother Chuck Gray just to name a few -all of whom mean a great deal to our family. God bless the United States and most of all, thank God for the ultimate Captain of our Salvation who gave his life so we might live-The Lord Jesus Christ. I wish I could say that I am an expert mechanic, but I am not. I wish I knew the ins and outs of what makes a muscle rod a muscle rod...but I don't. The closest I have come to even doing anything mechanical is the few times I have changed my oil in my old truck although I did replace a radiator one time in a Caprice. But, I digress...I simply love vintage cars, how they look, sound and smell. Anyone who has seen Steve McQueen in the vintage classic Cop movie "Bullit" when he takes on that 68 Dodge Charger with his 68 Ford Mustang HAS to come away a FAN OF THE IRON MUSCLE of the combustion engine and all things metal with screeching rubber tires, exhaust smoke spewing and fenders being crunched! SO, since my blog here is my one outlet to promote what I do (which is draw with pen and ink) and since this crazy world we live in is convinced that the sky is falling thanks in part to "The Modern Car and Big trucks which spew their horrid exhaust into the atmosphere " I am taking time today to promote the world of fast cars and gasoline fueled engines with some artistic creations of my own so as to celebrate the ingenuity it took to develop the modern day vehicle and all those cool models that burned the asphalt like the 65 Corvette, the 68 Charger, the 68 Mustang and many more- NONE OF WHICH WERE GREEN Friendly or powered by an Al Gore like "electric pencil sharpener size motor". Again, all I do is draw such things. The prints shown are available by the way in poster and canvas print and are very affordable so contact me at info@artbygvjones.com if interested and if not, just enjoy taking a gander at them. After all, if the "Go-Green folks" have their way, we will all be driving wimp-mobiles. But the good news is this- neither the combustion engine nor mankind himself is going to destroy this planet on which we live! "Why"-you ask? Because this universe, this world and our very lives are all in the hands of the Almighty Lord God himself and He alone will bring all things to an end when He is ready. So until then, I am going to keep drawing and driving my 2000 Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel and spewing dark clouds of burned diesel fuel into the atmosphere...with great joy.
